Should I Limit my Childs time on social media?

The bottom line answer on this is YES!

There are many scientific articles written about why limitation is a good idea as well as recommendations for gradual increased time depending on the age of the child. But take into account also, the emotional age of your child. A fourteen year old may only be ten on the emotional level; or an eighteen year old may only be fifteen emotionally. You know your child; don’t be afraid to take this emotional age into account when making your decision.

Kids are most influenced by what they see at home and from their peers. Granted, you cannot control what their peers do, but you can control what you do and what goes on in your home.

Are you constantly scrolling on a device?

Do you have a device-free zone at home? No devices at the dinner table, for example?

I suspect that the hardest thing is the anticipation of the argument that ensues when you say “no” or have to take the device away. It certainly was for me when I had to say no to my kids. Nobody wants to hear the language and disrespect that often follows a disciplinary move.

Do your job as a parent. Hold the line for what you know they need, not what they want.  You don’t need to be their friend- they have plenty of friends.

Be the parent.

Here’s to raising kids of character…
